The following profiles will provide a good background of our company and the beliefs of those responsible for the future of First Class Child Care Ltd.
Directors & Consultants to FCCC ~
Gail & Alan Clifford
Gail Clifford CertEd is a qualified Early Years Teacher and following 6 years teaching realised her ambition of opening her first day nursery in Nelson in 1984. Gail has always prided herself on the quality of care and service that FCCC provides and also developed the FCCC ethos of 'Where Children Come First'. Gail also holds NVQ5 in Management and is a qualified NVQ assessor. Gails continues to provide valuable support and mentors our Senior Team in line with the requirements of EYFS.
Alan Clifford is a construction engineer and following 10 years in industry settled in the North West and opened several successful small businesses culminating in FCCC's first childcare centre in 1984. Alan oversaw the development of FCCC throughout the 80's and 90's and although now semi-retired continues to support the finance and business functions of FCCC.
Operations Director ~
Andrew Clifford BA (Hons) DPS
Andrew joined the company on a formal basis in June 2002 having grown up with the company and is now at the forefront of FCCC's development. Andrew has an Honours International Management degree and is continuing to move the company forward to maintain all our high standards whilst adapting the changing needs of the Early Years sector.
Andrew has good links with all our Early Years teams in each local authority we operate in and also attends many National Day Nursery Association seminars and conferences as well as local network meetings, ensuring FCCC remains up to date with the latest in early years.
Andrew works very closely with Emma (Business Manager) and Judith & Clare (Senior Managers) who have day to day responsibility for our centres.
Andrew has an excellent rapport and working relationship with all our nursery managers to ensure the FCCC family operates smoothly week to week.
Andrew has been responsible for our developments including;
- the establishing of our dedicated office facilities
- supporting the expansion of our Senior Management team
- the incorporation of Croner Consulting Employment and Health & Safety Management systems into FCCC operations
- the expansion into West Yorkshire with the acquisition of Wesley House (Idle, Bradford), Cliffe House (Yeadon, Leeds), The Academy Nursery (Harrogate) in 2007
- procuring our company IT network and subsequent training
- overseeing the Ofsted standards and framework changes to EYFS from 2008
- the tendering and setting up of FCCC Barrow in conjunction with Barrow Primary School
Business Manager ~
Emma Clifford
Emma Clifford works with our Office Manager Wendy and our Group Site Supervisor Peter to oversee the backup support and systems to our nurseries. Emma has worked within FCCC since 2004.
Emma also has responsibility for the co-ordination of special events within FCCC including our Five Year Club away days, Annual Gala and Staff Awards Celebrations as well as special birthday events and celebrations within the nurseries including our fundraising and partnership with parents programmes.
Senior Managers ~
Judith Gannon (Lancashire) & Clare Gibson (Yorkshire)
Judith Gannon has worked for First Class Child Care since January 1998. Judith has progressed through the management of FCCC since qualifying in the field of childcare. Judith is responsible for the day to day running of the FCCC centres located in Lancashire and is the first point of contact for the managers.
Clare Gibson was appointed as SM Yorkshire in May 2007. She has worked for FCCC since January 2006, previously as Acting Manager at Lorraines, Halifax prior to becoming Nursery Manager at Cliffe House in September 2006.
Clare took over the responsibility for the day to day running of the FCCC centres located in Yorkshire from September 2007 and works closely with Andrew & Judith to support the group as a whole.
Judith & Clare co-ordinate our in-house network meetings for Early Years Foundation Stage provision across all our settings, and have built up an excellent links with the Early Years Teams across Lancashire & Yorkshire as well as supporting all our NVQ trainees through their training programmes with various providers.
They support all centres with regards to Ofsted and the inspection process ensuring feedback is well received and action plans implemented.
Most recently Judith & Clare have overseen the transition to the Early Years Foundation Stage across all our settings to replace the old national standards.
Office Manager ~
Wendy Law
Wendy joined us as Office Manager for First Class Child Care in September 2008 and has responsibility for the smooth running of our administration office. She supports the Senior Management team of Andrew, Emma, Judith, and Clare as well as being the nurseries first port of call for any supply/ contractor issues. Wendy co-ordinates the accounting and purchasing for all the nurseries.

Whalley Meadows Day Nursery joins the FCCC group
January
FCCC hosts our Annual Gala Celebrations and Staff Awards to mark the end of our 25th Anniversary celebrations. 125 staff attended the pretsigious event at Coniston Hotel, nr Gargrave.
2009
September
Thirteen FCCC staff enrol to work towards 'Early Years Professional Status' the governments flagship aim for the the Early Years sector. Staff are working towards Foundation Degree and subsequent BA (Hons).
